Construction works on Mora-Dabanga-Kousséri road resumes December 1

The two Chinese contractors in charge of the Mora-Dabanga-Kousseri road, in the far north of Cameroon have announced the resumption of the work, after five months of suspension. The officials of Syno-Hydro Jiangsu recently met with the Governor of the region of the far North, Midjiyawa Bakari to whom they entrusted the dates.

The Chinese company Jiangsu which constructs the Dabanga-Kousseri (72.5 Km) stretch; will resume work as early as December 1, 2014. As for Syno-Hydro, attributed with the rehabilitation of the Mora-Dabanga (131, 52 Km), they will resume the work as early as January 15, 2015, according to reports from National Public Radio (CRTV).

Work had been suspended on these two channels due to the abduction of 10 Chinese workers of the company, Syno-Hydroat Waza, on the night of 16th to 17th May.

The company had requested for better security and conditions before the resumption of work: the release of ten workers, the establishment of a new mission of control following the resignation of the former and the strengthening of security on this axis and around the base of the company. Most of the conditions has been met.

The 10 Chinese workers were released on October 11; a new mission of control has been added; and the Government has given assurances that provisions have been made to guarantee the safety of equipment and people on sites that run the two companies.

According to official information from the Ministry of public works, the duration of the work of rehabilitation of the Maroua-Kousseri, 131.52 kilometre long section Mora-Dabanga was 29 months after the construction started August 21, 2013. The Dabanga-Kousseri (72,75 Km) stretch had meanwhile in May 31, 2014 realised an implementation rate of 53%, with 60% of the consumed time.
