The measures taken by the international community with a view to fight effectively against the maritime insecurity in the Gulf of Guinea undergo an important bearing on Thursday in Yaounde.

It is in the favor of the inauguration of the inter-regional Center (CIC) coordination for the safety and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, at the Golf neighborhood.

This structure is the emanation of the Summit held in June 2013 in the Cameroonian capital on maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, and which has mobilized the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Gulf of Guinea Commission (CGG) and foreign partners.

The draft program of the inauguration ceremony of the CIC provides, among other things, the installation of the launch team by the Chairman-in-Office of the annual meeting of the senior officials who is the secretary general of ECCAS, the speech of the chairman of the national committee for the follow-up of the outcomes of the Summit in Yaounde in the person of the minister delegate at the presidency for the Defense, the cutting of the ribbon, the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, visit to the premises.

In the margin of this event, the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX) housed yesterday the first meeting of the group of experts of the G7 of the friends of the Gulf of Guinea (Germany, Canada, USA, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, etc. ), under the French presidency, OF or the presence of the Ambassador of France in Cameroon, Christine Robichon.

In his speech, the ambassador had stated to the representatives of the States of the G7Group that they are gathered in the framework of the meeting organised by the special French representative for the fight against maritime piracy in order to make the point to the situation of their respective commitments in this perspective, while reaffirming the common objective which is to support the process of Yaounde.

The Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, by opening the work, expressed the gratitude of the government of Cameroon to this support, following the decisions taken in June 2013 at the Summit of Yaounde. Good to know, in the Gulf of Guinea, the year 2013 has seen the transition in the number of acts of piracy and armed robbery at sea at 130, against 56 in 2010, mainly in the territorial waters of Nigeria.

According to the experts, this situation could, on the duration, populate the instability in West Africa, maintained by the persistence of the terrorist risk in the Sahel and trafficking of all kinds (narcotic drugs, human beings, drugs) in the zone.
