Copyright law: government embarks on a new reform

This initiative is by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi in order to put an end to the constant disagreement and legal rambling that have been registered recently especially in the musical arts category of the copyright and related rights.

The Minister in his presentation during the meeting detailed a procedure to the eventual implementation of the reform.

To him, it was time to clarify the legal and institutional framework that governs the management of the copyright law in Cameroon.

It is after this must have been done that the creation of a new company can be envisaged.

To be agreed on later,will be an electoral code for a prospective management team of the company.

Before this presentation at the Prime Minister’s office, the Ministry of Arts and Culture very recently published a temporal national directory of registers for beneficiaries and representatives of copyright claims.

This directory, according to officials will be updated annually.

The creation of the register was considered the first step towards transparency and modernity in the management of musical rights category of authors and related rights that has registered a continuous disagreement especially in terms of management of copyrights and payment of copyright dues in the country.
