Crackdown on truck drivers initiated after Ndokoti accident

The Government delegate of the urban community in Douala intends to enforce traffic regulations in the city.

In the coming days, "any truck trying to operate at a prohibited time must pay a substantial fine." This threat came from Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, Government delegate of the urban community in Douala.

After the drama which led to the death of close to eight people and more than a dozen motorcycles crushed on the evening of Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Ndokoti crossroads, the Government delegate announced that the time has come to ensure the respect of the measure prohibiting the movement of heavy goods vehicles in the city of Douala between 06 am and 6 pm.

The threats from the Government delegate are in addition to the measures prescribed by the prefect of Wouri during a press briefing given this Thursday, October 02, 2014. "We educated the sub-prefect and the 3rd Mayor of Douala, to ensure that sellers leave the area and we have already banned trade at that level.

The measure prohibiting the movement of heavy goods vehicles between 6 am and 6 pm had been taken by the Governor of the Littoral Region a few days before the arrival of the President of the Republic Paul Biya in Douala for the laying of the first stone for the construction of the second bridge over the Wouri, November 14, 2013.

Since then, the measure was never effective as truck drivers evoked negative consequences on their activity.
