Crisis in the CNPS: The hunger strike continues

Officers of the insurance house protest against layoffs and assignments made by the leadership.

It is important to emphasize that the employee representatives currently on hunger strike, were taken to court by the director, Alain Noël Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame.

The unions fiercely opposed the participation of the boss of the National Social Insurance Fund (CNPS) in the election of delegates. This decision of the head of the CNPS has created tensions. A memorandum was even sent to Mekulu Mvondo Akame.

On several occasions, the protesters tried to meet their boss to bury the hatchet. All appeasement tendencies have failed to restore serenity within the company. We recorded 80% of null ballots for election to exclude the true representatives. Notwithstanding this, the elections were still held. It resulted in the appointment of staff representatives that some are unrepresented.

Later on, assignments and layoffs followed. Slingers delegates were assigned to the interior. It will be difficult for them to respond to notices of various Criminal Tribunal of Yaounde Administrative Centre. According to management, the agents appointed hold fake diplomas.

On 19 November 2014, the personnel who felt wronged entered into a hunger strike. The problem increased at the beginning of December.
