Culture Minister Urges Objectivity in Copyright Work

The SOCAM Normalisation Committee has six months to produce proposals for the rapid improvement of the copyrights sector in Cameroon.

Newly appointed officials of the Adhoc Committee in charge of the protection of authors rights and related author's right in category B headed by Samuel Dongfeng known by his artist name as Sam Fan Thomas and the normalisation commission of the collective management of author's rights headed by legal expert, Dr. Christopher Seuna, officially took function yesterday January 28, 2014 in Yaounde.

Commissioning the members, the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna called on the officials to start work immediately and to work with objectivity, togetherness and calm in so as to ensure order in the sector. She assured the officials of the two committees of her support and that of the ministry as they carry out the huge task assigned to them. The adhoc committee headed by Sam Fan Thomas has a period of two months to redress the problems of the music sector.

The normalisation committee has six months to produce a report on their proposals for the rapid normalisation of the copyrights sector in Cameroon. The committee will be dissolved thereafter. As to where the committee will operate, Minister Ama Tutu Muna said the committees have been provided offices in the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Also, the financing of the work of the committees will be done by the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
