The tarring of a 60km stretch of the Ring Road, from Ndop to Takijah, will not go further than Kumbo Squares, authroritues have revealed.
The revelation was made by the Northwest Regional Delegate of Public Works, Denis Awoh Ndang, in the Kumbo Council hall during a working session organised by the Governor of the Northwest Region, Lele L’Afrique Deben Tchoffo Adolph, at the end of a two-day economic tour of six Subdivisions; Jakiri, Mbeven, Nkum, Kumbo, Noni and Oku in Bui Division, from June 16 to 17.
Awoh Ndang explained that the original plan of tarring the stretch of road from Ndop to Takijah, covering a distance of 60km, could not be met because the money has been used for widening the road, which was not in the original plan.
He said, as a result of that, the tarring from Ndop to Kumbo will now end at Kumbo Squares, while the Government looks for funds to continue the tarring from Kumbo Squares to Nkambe and Nkambe to Wum and Wum to Bamenda.
Responding to questions during the working session, Awoh Ndang called on road users to respect the rain gates in the Division.
Governor Lele L’Afrique, in his speech, highlighted Government assistance in Solanum Irish potatoes and coffee sectors; the Irish Potato Transformation Centre soon to be constructed in Kumbo; the rehabilitation of fishery development; the maintenance of Kumbo-Mbiame road; construction of health centres and Gendarmerie brigades. He called on the population of Bui to work harder than before to attain President Biya’s 2035.
Governor Lele further called on the Bui population to rally behind President Biya to secure peace and security for their economic activities by collaborating with the administration and the forces of law and order, to denounce those who want to breach peace.
He told people to become peace builders and exercise tolerance and live peacefully. He also called on journalists to report only facts and work harder to leave the society better than they found it.
The 1st Deputy Mayor of Kumbo Council, Margret Lukong Beri, in her welcome speech thanked the Government for accepting their plea to widen the tarring of the road.
She appealed to Government to tar the streets in Kumbo and link up the Subdivisions of Bui with tarred roads, adding that Government should appoint members of the Council Tender Boards.
Bui Senior Divisional Officer,SDO, Theophile Nzeki, while making a resume of the places visited during the Governor’s two-day economic tour, described the tour as a very serious one.
When the Governor gave room for Delegates to talk about their activities to the population, the Regional Delegate of Public Health for Northwest, Dr. Victor Ndiforchu, revealed that one case of Poliomyelitis was reported in Bui Division.
He thanked the health personnel and the population for detecting it and called on parents to ensure that all their children are vaccinated against Poliomyelitis.
The Regional Delegate of Arts and Culture, Lukong, announced that a regional competition for artists. She called on the people of Bui to collaborate and make it a total success.
Susan Fon, Regional Delegate of Basic Education, educated the public on the documents to compile when applying for the opening of schools and the local authorities who have to sign the application.
The Northwest coordinator of ACEFA, Godfred Mubah, talked on the programme for the improvement of the competitiveness of farmers Agro Pastoral Farm Enterprises to be run by MINEPIA, MINADER to cost circa FCFA 60 billion nationwide.
Under the Livestock and Fishery Development Project, LIFIDEP, a construction of a cattle market has been earmarked at Lassin village in Noni Subdivision.
The representative of the Regional Delegation of Agriculture and Rural Development told farmers to take proper care of the maize and Irish potato seeds distributed to them. He reported an outbreak of caterpillars in Bui Division and how it was being handled.
During the tour, the Governor and his entourage visited a stretch of the Ring Road tarred from Babessi to Kumbo by SOGEA-SATOM; the mixed farming group of Stanislaus Fonta Bernsai at Tan; Dieudonne Farm at Wasi-beri owned by Jaff Romanus Verkijika, the Mayor of Jakiri Council; Mbiame Council complex; Mbiame Council Market project; Tatum water catchment area; Hilltop Breeze Resort Tatum; Catholic University School of Health Science Kumbo, where the Dean of Studies, Professor Philip Ebengu, took the Governor and entourage round the institution for appraisal.
They also visited the Tadu Dairy Cooperative; FISIY’s Foundation Lassin, where Governor told the initiator to look for papers of recognition; Nkor council complex under construction; Oku honey cooperative and the Lake Oku tourist site.
