The Member of Parliament, MP, for the Kumba Urban, Meme, Southwest Region, Hon. Bolevie Mbanya, has declared that detractors will not distract him from his development agenda for his constituency.

Hon. Mbanya made the statement on August 27 while launching the second phase of activities to crown his Parliamentary grants projects at the Family Planning Hospital, PMI Kumba.

The lawmaker s’ comments is apparently in response to a radio communiqué issued by the Divisional Officer, DO, for Kumba III Subdivision, Gubai Beldena, calling on service heads in his area of command not to accept gifts with inscriptions from donors on them.

Gubai and the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party had clashed on August 21 following orders the administrator issued requesting that the SDF inscriptions on benches, beds and side stools the MP had donated be wiped off.

Asked on the insistence from the DO that the inscriptions be wiped off, the MP said it is unwise for him to condescend to polemics, blackmail and cheap confrontation, whereas he has projects in his constituency to be executed.

Mbanya, who is equally a Barrister-at-Law, stressed that everybody has the latitude to do whatever they want but in case there is an innuendo, he would unleash his legal arsenal on whomever tries to block his agenda, for no just cause.

While the DO is arguing that parliamentary grant is money from the Head of State to develop the various constituencies, Mbanya and his SDF District Chairs dismiss the claim arguing that it is a law that was adopted in Parliament which makes available funds to MPs - not the President of the Republic.

The second phase of the donation of gifts within the micro projects scheme in Kumba I Subdivision was made up of scores of hospital equipment, particularly beds, donated to PMI Kumba and the Bukemwe Health Centre.

The Medical Doctors of both health facilitiesappreciated the donations as timely given the enormous expansion work carried out. According to Dr. Francis Edie Ngolle of the PMI, the beds will help them to equip the new maternity wards. Earlier, the SDF District Chair for Kumba I, Raphael Tanyi, explained that the Hon Mbanya, and by extension the SDF, was living up to the promises made to the people of Kumba during campaigns for the last Municipal and Legislative elections.

Tanyi stressed that the selected projects were identified by separate committees put in place by the MP to better provide the communities with their pressing needs.

With the first phase of the parliamentary projects now in the hands of the beneficiary, the MP has announced a super cup tournament in the days ahead to conclude holiday sporting activities before scheduling other projects for execution.
