Douala: Human bones trafficker caught

The elements of the Douala 2 gendarmerie arrested a suspected trafficker of human bones while he was preparing to sell his “goods” at the black market for 40 million FCFA, on Saturday, December 19.

The arrest was successful as a result of an intelligence at a bus station at Mboppi in Douala.

The suspect is a 27-year-old young man, informed CRTV National Radio during the 8 am news yesterday.

According to the local radio correspondent, the suspect was taken while alighting from a bus from Betare Oya in the Eastern Region. He had in his possession a bag of flour.

“Inside the bag he had buried another bag, well packaged, containing human bones, including a skull; ribs, the femur; the tibia ready to be sold at the black market and valued at 40 million FCFA," we learnt.

After his interrogation, the suspect said it was his first operation and that the package was presented by a Bororoman at Betare Oya.

This provider has not yet been identified, and so far, the security sources have not yet revealed who the buyer is.

The suspect has, however, been held in custody at the premises of the gendarmerie of Douala 2, at Ndogbong, waiting to be brought before the public prosecutor.

The trafficking of human bones is becoming widespread in Cameroon. In July 2015, the Judicial Police of the Centre got hold of a trafficker in possession of 110 bones in total including 82 for one body and 28 (yet fleshy) for the other.

The action was committed at Nkoteng early July at an abandoned cemetery.
