Douala Police Dismantle Armed Gang

The Judicial Police in Douala last week hacked an armed gang that attacked four Gambians at Nyalla last August 9 doing away with the sum FCFA 25 million.

They were arrested with two locally made guns during several operations carried out by a joint team of the Judicial Police. The six armed bandits attacked four Gambian businessmen at their residence in Nyalla. During the hold-up, the robbers made away with the colossal sum and a mobile phone.

Upon receiving the news the Head of the Judicial Police in Douala, an investigation was prescribed. The joint operation was carried out by elements of the investigative Department of the Judicial Police and the anti-gang unit. The Police Hit squad proceeded to carefully exploit the mobile phone that the armed bandits abandoned on the scene.

On August 13 the operation mounted by the skillful policemen yielded fruits with the arrest of Sylvain Wandji, 34; Herve Sanga, 30; Pem Pem Mama Sani, 25, and Andre Le Maire Monkam, 29 as principal suspects.

In a second operation carried out towards the end of last week, two others, Guy Alain Tchenkam Tchente, 35, and Aguilas Yakeu Tchoueteu, 27, felt on the Police Dragnet. By the time all the armed bandits were arrested, they were in possession of two locally made pistols and seven bullets as well as part of the booty, FCFA 3 million. They had already bought a new Toyota Carina E car, a Sanili motorcycle, a television Set, a table, carpet, laptop and a new musical set.

All the Six armed bandits unanimously admitted having perpetrated the robbery. All the items taken from the bandits were handed over to the victims.

They were transferred to the State Council of the Military Tribunal in Bonanjo on charges of aggravated theft and illegal detention of firearms.
