Real estate developers in Douala recently underwent some sensitization. Since the adoption of its master and urban plans, three years ago, the Urban community of Douala (CUD) has intensified its fight against irregular constructions. It has been noted that developers still use inappropriate material for scaffolding for example wood.
CUD thus held an awareness seminar on "the use advance technologies in scaffolding instead of wood in order to combat deforestation." For Cud Government delegate, Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, who presided over the session, the conclusion is clear: real estate developers and contractors of public works are using inappropriate material for construction.
In addition, continued the delegate, wood scaffolding has been noted to have caused many fatal accidents, apart the fact that it is one of the major factors that contribute to deforestation which is harmful to our environment.
This seminar was aimed at raising awareness and putting everyone within this sector under some sort of responsibility. As a concrete proposal, the Cud suggested replacing wood scaffolds with removable and adjustable iron ones.
