Douala hosts the first Chad-Cameroon railway Mixed Commission

Meetings for the first Chad-Cameroon railway Mixed Commission are being held in Douala, to define a timetable of work to the extension of the railway line between the city of Ngaoundere in northern Cameroon and Ndjamena, the Chadian capital.

Both sides find themselves in the Cameroonian economic, Douala and embodying the railway cooperation agreement signed between the governments of Chad and Cameroon on June 3, and one of whose decisions consists of a linear construction of 700 km of track railway between the two countries.

The roadmap adopted by the two parties in particular provides for the establishment of the organs provided for in the agreement; the joint request from donors to finance feasibility studies; the signing of the loan; the negotiation and signing of the contract for feasibility studies; the commencement of services and for feasibility studies

Work that will carry out the technical partner, the Bolloré group, through one of its entities, the Cameroon railways (CAMRAIL) operating for almost fifteen, the rail network in Cameroon.

Chad a hinterland country, has most of its merchandise through the port of Douala, more than 80 percent of the traffic using the road corridor between Douala and N'Djamena, some 1500 km.

The construction of a railway linking the two countries should promote freight traffic and will open up much of the northern part of Cameroon.
