ECCAS countries and UN debate on terrorism

Luanda — Experts of Cameroon, Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, DR Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe and the United Nations are debating since Tuesday in Luanda, matters concerning the fight against terrorism.

For three days, participants will study the main factors which contribute to the spread of terrorism, especially in Central Africa, and find ways to prevent criminal acts and punish their actions.

They will also look to the increase of regional cooperation, ensuring the compliance with the law on human rights and the implementation of the resolution of the UN Security Council 1624 (2005), 2129 (2013), and 2178 (2014), on the subject .

The range of enrolled themes included a discussion of violent extremism and terrorist phenomena of foreign fighters in the Central African region, and the role of development and social inclusion in the fight against terrorism.

The meeting should also analyze the human rights framework and rules of law as the fundamental basis in the fight against terrorism, as well as the identification of necessary people and resources for the measures within the overall strategy of the United Nations.

The event, a joint promotion of the Angolan Ministries of Justice and Human Rights and of Interior, in partnership with the United Nations, counts on the participation of representatives of civil society.
