Samuel Fonkam Azu'u held talks with two separate delegations on October 4, 2013.
Observers and expert teams that monitored the September 30, 2013 local and legislative elections have been expressing satisfaction with the organisation and conduct of the polls during meetings with different State officials.
On Friday October 4, 2013, the Commonwealth Expert Team to Cameroon led by its Chair, M.I. Abdool Rahman, held discussions with the Chairman of the independent electoral body, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Samuel Fonkam Azu'u. Rahman described relations with ELECAM as being old, but said the body was like a baby to the Commonwealth.
He said the Expert Team put in place by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London was not going to make any preliminary statement about the September 30 polls. But he promised that their report will be ready soon. It shall be forwarded to the Secretariat in London and a copy also handed to those who matter in the country, including the media. Samuel Fonkam Azu'u also received a delegation of observers from the Economic Community for Central African States (ECCAS), led by Pierre Simeon Athomo Ndong.
According to him, ELECAM made good use of biometrics in the polls. He said the conduct was credible and invited political parties to accept the results for the strengthening of the democratic principles of the country. He also revealed that their coming to Cameroon was to show support and solidarity with ELECAM.
