ELECAM Electoral Board evaluates activities

The 3rd ordinary session of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) for 2015 has ended in the nation’s capital, Yaoundé.

The focus was to take stock of activities of the Board members and the Directorate General for the last three months.

The session, which began on September 29, 2015 was chaired by the President of the Electoral Board, Dr. Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, and attended for the first time by Abdoulaye Babalé, in his capacity as the Director General of Elections, after his appointment in July, 2015.

Apart from taking stock of activities of the board members who were all in the field between August 21 and September 4, 2015, evaluating the 2015 revision of voters’ register which ended on August 31, 2015, as per the law, the board members also examined the report of activities of the Director General.

Members were briefed on the recent visit of the President to the Diaspora where he had contacts with ELECAM’s main officials, attended the general assembly of the African Electoral Administration Commission in Accra in July and the 2nd general assembly of the Association of World Election bodies that took place on August 17-21, 2015 in the Dominican Republic.

The Vice President, Barrister Justin Ebanga, on his part, participated in discussions for the organisation of the presidential election in Chad. ELECAM Board members also took the time to evaluate the voters’ list revision operations and discussed the way forward for the 2016 operation that begins in January.

According to the Head of the Communication Division of ELECAM, Marie-Rose Nzié, preparations for the revision of the voters’ registers for 2016 have started with the training of staff to reinforce their capacity for more efficiency in the upcoming operation.

As a reminder, the 2015 voter revision exercise produced positive results with more than 240, 926 potential voters registered.
