Board members of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, have been urged to deepen and instill the atmosphere of serenity and discipline in 2016.

The Electoral Board Chairman, Dr. Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, made the call during the 2016 first ordinary session of the Board that held recently at Mont Febe Hotel in Yaounde.

Dr. Fonkam reiterated the need for members to work together so as to record more success within the year.

The Director General of ELECAM, Abdoulaye Babale, the Deputy Director General of Elections, as well as the Accounting Officer, used the opportunity to present the execution of the special appropriation of the Board for 2015 financial year.

They also presented the administrative and management accounts of ELECAM for 2014.

The first ordinary session for the year was also accorded the ELECAM officials the opportunity to evaluate field trips carried out by members between January 11 and 18, 2016 with a view of supervising the launching of the revision of electoral registers for the year 2016, and to control the daily activities of ELECAM branches at the beginning of the current year.

To this effect, members of the Board agreed to work together to improve the functioning of local branches of ELECAM, laying particular emphasis on restoring discipline.

In strong terms, Board members condemned certain private newspapers for publishing misleading statements alleging a growing dissent between the Electoral Board and the Director General of Elections.
