ELECAM celebrates Accessibility Award

Elections Cameroon, ELECAM celebrates its Accessibility Award won last December 5, 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa and promised to do more to perfect the electoral process in the country.

The prize was presented last January 30 at the esplanade of ELECAM in Yaoundé during New Year Wishes ceremony to the Director General, Mohaman Sani Tanimou and his deputy, Dr Essousse Erik.

Speaking during the occasion, the Director General said, “this prize is simple, though rich in significance. It signifies that the work of ELECAM is acknowledged and recognized worldwide. It signifies that ELECAM is now playing in the big league. We gladly share this prize with a minority group of the electorate composed of persons with disability, as it is thanks to our proccess and efforts done in their favour that we impressed the jury to win this prize.”

Reiterating that 2015 will certainly be a year without respite like 2014, the Director General explained that their platform for action projects will consist of “the continuation of the revision of the electoral registers both within and out of the national territory, and production of the corresponding voter cards and electoral registers, a regular sensitization of electors through our usual communication channels, the distribution of new voter cards particularly within the Diaspora, technical auditing of our biometric system to identify shortcomings and to perform the necessary adjustments in a rigorous and more effective management of our human, financial and material resources. We intend to make progressive improvement in the working conditions of staff members, the continuation of our building works on the ELECAM head office which started November 30, 2014.”

Mohaman Sani Tanimou reminded his collaborators that nothing can be achieved without hard work coupled with focus on both responsibility and excellence. He thus urged them to be disciplined; respect laws and rules in force, respect hierarchy and show prove of a high sense of public interest.
