ELECAM President, Dr. Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, has said the institution is ready to organise elections any time President Paul Biya says so.

Dr. Fonkam Azu’u was speaking in Bamenda during a press briefing at the start of a tour in the Northwest to ascertain the level of the revision of electoral registers.

Fonkam called on those of voting age who have not registered to seize the opportunity and register because if President Biya convenes the polls at anytime, registration will automatically stop.

“We are ready to hit the ground running if elections are called up any time.

That is why these routine visits on the field keep us abreast to evaluate our performance from when the registers were opened,” said the ELECAM President.

He said the local consultation with ELECAM officials and local election stakeholders is a build-up to the national consultation that will hold in Yaounde possibly in April 2016.

Fonkam said overall, the Northwest is doing well and had maintained the lead in the whole country until recently when it tailed the West Region.

To him, the West Region must have put in place more strategies to have beaten the Northwest in registering more people on the electoral registers.

What is amazing to Fonkam is the fact that those registering this time around are those within the age brackets of 20-35.

In terms of ranking, Bamenda II occupies first position with Tubah coming second and two Sub-divisions Njikwa and Andeh in Ngie tailing.

“The impressive performance of Fura-Awa Sub-division has surprised all of us, considering the enclave nature of the area,” Fonkam noted.

The special “Operation 30,000 Registration of Women” was applauded for the successes registered.

ELECAM Northwest has also succeeded in distributing over 9,000 abandoned voters’ cards.
