Board members on October 25, 2013 adopted its 2014 draft budget and plans of action.
The Board Chairman of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr Fonkam Azu'u Samuel says the elections organizing, governing and supervisory institution will draw lessons from the September 30, 2013 twin legislative and municipal elections and continue to improve the electoral process in Cameroon. Aspects of the process that need attention, he said, concern attempts at fraud, material organization and electoral education focusing more on youths.
Dr Fonkam Azu'u spoke to reporters at the Yaounde Mont Fébé Hotel on October 25, 2013 shortly before the start of the third ordinary session of the Electoral Board of ELECAM for 2013. He disclosed that the institution was preparing the final report of the September 30 twin legislative and municipal elections as required by law. However, on an assessment of the conduct of the electoral process so far, he said, "From what we have been able to see from national and international observers and from the press, by and large, it was a well organized elections." He added that, "We will draw the necessary lessons as no human endeavour can be 100 per cent right." The conditions of organizing the elections were fairly good, he said and justified that, "each time an election is organized in peace as was the case in Cameroon, it means that the minimum was done."
Besides evaluating the conduct of the September 30 elections, ELECAM Board members principally examined and adopted its draft budget for the 2014 financial year. They also examined the plans of action of the Board and Directorate General of Elections in ELECAM. Dr Fonkam Azu'u told reporters that the board has to work on a programme that would cover the next five years.
