Due to terrorist attacks in the far North, there is currently a massive presence of refugees in the East of Cameroon and the country cannot cope with these challenges all alone.

The money made available will thus go to help the country to cope with the massive influx of refugees in some parts of the country.

In a show of solidarity, the European Union (EU), through its structure in charge of humanitarian aid and civil protection Operations, intends to strengthen financial assistance, with a surplus of 1,968 billion F, with 2, 624 billion allocated to the country in January 2015. The announcement was made during a press conference given by Jean Louis de Brouwer, Director general of Echo, last Friday in Yaounde.

The Exchange with the press was held in the conference room of the delegation of the EU in the presence of Ambassador Head of the delegation of the EU to Cameroon, Françoise Collet.

It was intended to give the position of the institution with regard to the situation prevailing in Cameroon and to present the strategy to support the country.

"We are aware of the enormous challenges facing Cameroon. We want to show solidarity with these additional funds and the actions of our active experts ", said Jean louis Brouwer.

To have visited three times the CAR and raided the affected parts of the country, the diplomat seems to have taken the full measure of the task facing his institution.

Humanitarian organizations will be responsible for the implementation of humanitarian aid from Echo. Their strategy will be to facilitate access to health care, nutritional support, access to drinking water and sanitation.

Accommodation and the protection of persons also fall within its specifications. The media are also concerned with the educational component of the refugees.

Françoise Collet was reassuring about this subject. "We will overlook any component which fits into the principles of humanitarian aid", she said.

To better implement its action, Echo is set to open an office in Yaoundé, as early as next March. The powers of that office will be expanded to support humanitarian operations in CAR, Chad and Nigeria.
