A conference to discourage girls and boys from the practices held in Douala on January 4, 2015.

Young women and men have been advised not to be in a hurry to marry or indulge in sexual immorality. Stakeholders sounded the note of caution at the New Bell Evangelical College following the current wave of incidents like the dumping of babies resulting from unwanted pregnancies.

Early marriage, they said, is a major cause of divorce and a hindrance to the development of a child’s social potentials.

The event, which had as theme, “Early marriage and unwanted pregnancy,” was organised by the Young Women’s Christian Association, as a part of activities to sensitise young people in prelude to the celebration of the National Youth Day on 11th February 2015.

Speakers at the conference, including the Regional Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, a gyneco-obstetrician from the Laquintinie Hospital, Dr. Tchama Desack, Reverend Pastor Tuebou Emilienne, and a teacher, Nandjou, were unanimous in their call for students to remain focused on their studies or whatever they are doing in order to guarantee a bright future.

They reiterated that immorality predisposes people to Sexually-transmissible Diseases and HIV/AIDS and as well distracts from noble pursuits.

The President of Young Women’s Christian Association, Dr Mbouro Youte Je anette, said they want attitude change among young people, noting that a well-informed behaves responsibly.
