A social campaign against HIV-AIDS was launched at the Dimpan Government Secondary School by the Governor of the East Region Gregoire Mvogo, on behalf of the First Lady Chantal Biya.

During the launch, local authorities spoke of a timely gesture from the Head of State in this rural community in the upper Nyong Division of the East Region.

Not much is known about HIV-AIDS and other STIs diseases in this local community and the school in particular which has a total number of 225 students with just 80 girls.

The consignment of books was handed over to educate not only the students but the teachers on the need to fight against HIV AIDS especially in a region where the prevalence rate is officially 6.3% as against 4.3% nationally.

All speakers on the occasion emphasised on Mrs. Chantal Biya’s commitment in rolling back HIV AIDS.

A multimedia- video centre was inaugurated to assist students and teachers reinforce the knowledge on the killer disease.

The social vaccine campaign is a nationwide exercise initiated to prevent new cases of HIV infections.
