The seasoned civil administrator now Board Chair of Camair-Co has challenges to surmount.
The national air carrier, Camair-Co, now has a new board chair in the person of Edouard Akame Mfoumou. The former Minister of the Economy and Finance who had also served in several capacities in various administrations in the country since integrating the public service in 1972, was appointed by a presidential decree on September 11 as Board Chairman of the outfit.
The seasoned civil administrator from the Yaounde School of Administration and Magistracy (1972 batch) is expected to use his wealth of experience in various sectors of the administration to surmount challenges staring the company in the face for it to yield desired fruits.
Before serving as Minister of the Economy and Finance in the 1990s, Edouard Akame Mfoumou had also served as General Manager of the International Bank for Trade and Industry, Assistant Secretary General at the Prime Minister's Office, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence and Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic.
Going by recent information on the company, Camair-Co should be grappling with financial problems especially debts that the former management team reportedly inherited. Modernising and augmenting the fleet of planes that the company has, striving to conquer the competitive air-transport market as well as ensuring synergy between the administration and the entire staff for efficiency would not be the least of issues to be handled by the Akame Mfoumou-led team so that the "Star of Cameroon," as the carrier is known, would shine where darkness looms.
