Edouard Nathanael Etonde Ekotto freed, Siyam Siewe stays in prison

The former Chairman of board of directors of the Cameroon Ports Authority Edouard Nathanael Etonde Ekotto has been acquitted

The Supreme Court made public its decision in the very early hours of 30th April 2014. Edouard Nathanael Etonde Ekotto’s most famous of the eleven accused Siyam Siéwe saw his sentence brought down from life to twenty years in prison.

Alphonse Siyam Siéwe the former General Manager of the Cameroon Ports Authority and one co-accused Francois Marie Siewe Nitcheu were ordered to stay in prison while the others were acquitted.

The 77 year old retired colonel who has been government delegate to the Douala City Council has been in prison for six and half years accused and initially found guilty for embezzling state funds.

He was sentence to 15 years in Prison. The Court of Appeal later maintained his jail term and Alphonse Siyam Siewe was sentenced to life in prison while the jail term for most of the other eleven accused increased.

The Supreme Court, this April 2014 with its overriding authority, has freed the retired Colonel and maintained the former GM in prison.
