Education experts discuss the place of sports

An inter-ministerial meeting to enhance the teaching of sports and physical education in schools has opened in Yaounde this 4th November, 2015.

The meeting has brought together the Ministers of Sports and Physical Education, Basic Education and Secondary Education, as well as experts from all three Ministries.

While opening the meeting, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mkpatt stressed on the importance of sports and physical education especially in the domain of health and education.

At the end of the session, the stakeholders will come up with a harmonised document on teaching and evaluation of sports and physical education in schools.

The meeting was called up due to the loopholes discovered in the sports system in primary and secondary schools.

Such setbacks range from the absence of follow-up during sports lessons and the existence of different curricula.

It is worth mentioning that in recent years, the place of sports in the educational milieu has seen some significant increase with its move from a coefficient one subject to a coefficient two subject.
