Education is one of the areas of priority intervention-Minedub

The activities marking the 20th edition for the celebration of World Teachers day were closed Sunday in Yaoundé, in a ceremony presided over by Minedub, Youssouf Hadjidja Alim.

In Yaounde, the Minister of Basic Education, responsible for the coordination of relating activities held a grand ceremony at the multipurpose Sports Palace. The ceremony was attended by part of many knowledge providers and members of the Government.

There were alongside; Youssouf Hadjidja Alim, Ministers for the advancement of women and the family, Communication, higher education and many other senior officials including the Governor of the central region.

The ceremony of yesterday contained a series of activities held for this purpose. The message by Director-general of Unesco was read by a head of the regional office of the organization. In the text, Irina Bokova indicated that teachers are the quality of an education system.

They play a central role in the behaviour of future generations, though many sometimes work without financial resources and skills. Director General of Unesco invited Governments to promote quality education, through the improvement of their conditions of work among other suggestions.

The Minister of Basic Education revealed that education is one of the areas of priority intervention of the head of the Cameroonian State. Youssouf Hadjidja Alim also mentioned the granting of premiums, automatic processing of promotions, the creation of a follow-up Committee on the claims of teachers, the signature of the text relating to the academic palms after the premiums of documentation and research, the launch of the second phase of contractualization of 9000 teachers over a period of three years.

However, the Minister also acknowledged that much remains to be done. And in this regard, the Government will spare no effort to improve the conditions of life and work of teachers in Cameroon.
