Ekondo-Titi: Two armed robbery suspects arrested

Some two suspected armed bandits, Mayen Men Joel and Difang Asong Dynalie, alias ‘Fally,’ were recently arrested in Ekondo-Titi in Ndian Division of the South West Region.

The arrests were made possible by the Divisional Officer, DO, for Ekondo-Titi, Edwin Nkenya Ngwana, in collaboration with security men who launched a manhunt for the suspects.

According to the Commander of the Ekondo-Titi Gendarmerie Post, Jouffo Romain Marcel, the two men allegedly broke into the residence of a police officer, Eugene Chi Ngwanshi.

They made away with a Beretta automatic service rifle that was loaded with 10 live rounds, two gas cylinders, a torch lamp, a bottle of Champagne, a bottle of whisky and a computer set.

Jouffo Romain Marcel added that Eugene Chi Ngwanshi and one of the suspects, Mayen Men Joel, are neighbours.

On that fateful day at about 6:45pm, the police officer left his home to buy fuel for his generator following a power failure. Immediately he left, Mayen Men Joel and his colleague, Difang Asong Dynalie, reportedly broke his door with an axe. After the operation, the suspects reportedly shared the booty.

Difang allegedly collected the automatic rifle and a bottle of whisky, while Mayen took the two gas cylinders, a bottle of Champagne and the torch lamp.

Mayen Men Joel was later arrested and admitted to having committed the crime with the help of Difang. He added that they received a special order from Douala to supply firearms.

While fleeing, Difang Asong dropped the Beretta rifle by the window of Baptist Church, Ekondo-Titi. It was discovered by the Pastor the following morning.

The gas cylinders, whisky, Champagne and the torch lamp were also retrieved from Ndom Joseph, who bought them. As at press time, the search for Difang Asong Dynalie was still going on, while Mayen Joel and Ndom Joseph were transferred to the Kumba Main Prison pending trial.
