According to the Prime Minister who was speaking at the opening of the first conference of the Commonwealth Youth Ministers from Africa, young people are at the centre of the policy of the leaders of Cameroon.

For Philémon Yang, Prime Minister of Cameroon, "the triennial contingency plan which is underway will create thousands of jobs for the youth and raise the development of all regions of the country."

The head of Government was speaking at the opening of the first conference of the Commonwealth Youth Ministers from the African Region where he represented the head of State.

According to him, "young people have a vital role to play by rejecting terrorism and extremism in all forms" in a context where the temptations from terrorist groups such as Boko Haram are more stark.

To the Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Deodat Maharaj who participated in this meeting, "the majority of young people from the African Region continue to face difficulties such as unemployment, underemployment and lack of jurisdiction which is precarious".

It is important that the concerns of young people be taken into account so that they will not fall prey to extremism. The Ministers responsible for youth of the Commonwealth in the Africa region are expected to propose a package of measures to help the Organization to find solutions to the youths problems.

The meeting took place as a prelude to the 49th edition of the National Youth Festival, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. These delegations will participate in the parade at the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde.
