Tuesday February 18, 2014 will remain a remarkable day to scores of people living along towns leading to the Regional Headquarter of the South West Region, Buea. On this day inhabitants of Tiko, Likomba, Mutengene, Mile 14, Bolifamba, Mile 17 and other towns leading to Buea where overwhelmed with joy as they saw the Presidential Limousine carrying President Paul Biya and Wife Chantal Biya drive past.
President Paul Biya and Wife, had just landed at the historic Tiko Airport from a helicopter in what many could termed the pinnacle of events leading to the 50th Anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon come Thursday, February 20, 2014 . After the spectacle welcomed, the Presidential Couple drove over a 20 kilometre road from Tiko to their residence in Buea. Songs from the different regions of the country, shouts of joy, special greetings and the waving of the country's flag as well as the effigy of President Paul Biya and Madame accompanied the Presidential convey from Tiko passing through Likomba, Mutengene, Mile 14, Bolifamba and Mile 17 to the Government Residential Area (GRA) where the Presidential Residence is located.
Upon arrival at the Tiko Airport, hundreds of people from different walks of life had assembled at the airport to welcome the Presidential Couple. Traditional dance group from different clans in the North West such as Meta, Kom, Wimbum, Bafut as well as those from the South West (Oroko, Bakossi, Barando and Bakweri) and even the Fang Beti people from the Centre Region spiced the environment with melodious rhythm as Paul and Chantal Biya descended from their helicopter. Different associations such as Tiko Disabled Persons Association, Tiko Widow's Association and Military Spouses of the Special Amphibios Battalion joined different dance groups to hail the arrival of President Paul Biya and Wife.
As they left the airport, an enthusiastic crowd had gathered at the Tiko-Likomba junction to catch a glimpse of them. At the Mutengene Junction, another happy group of people comprising of school pupils and students also greeted the Presidential Couple as they passed by. The situation was not different as they climbed the Mutengene hill going towards Mile 14 and the Mile 17 junction as people even climbed trees and old building to greet the First Couple. Besides messages which revealed the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon, other messages hoisted along the road saluted the President of the Republic as a builder of peace. The population did not forget the goodwill gesture of Cameroon's First Lady. Besides putting up messages which reveal that she is a kind hearted Lady at the service of Cameroon, the population of the South West Region in another message said "Mrs Chantal Biya, Thank You for your humanitarian actions".
