The airline from Equatorial Guinea, Ceiba Intercontinental, decided on 30 August to suspend its flights to the economic capital of Cameroon to avoid the spread of the Ebola virus which struck West Africa.
This measure came into force Monday, September 1, 2014. In a communiqué signed by the Executive Deputy Director of the company, Simeon Esono Nchama Alogo, Ceiba Intercontinetal informs that it will no more serve more the following lines; Malabo-Douala-Malabo and Bata-Douala-Bata, "until further notice".
A measure of additional protection for the equato-Guinean airline in connection with the suspension of flights to other capitals, including: Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), Lomé (Togo), Accra (Ghana), Dakar (Senegal), Cotonou (Benin).
«Sources in the Ministry indicated that although no cases of the Ebola virus were detected in Cameroon, some passengers from the countries affected by this epidemic use flight, which is now suspended, to travel to Equatorial Guinea, reports the Office of information and press of Equatorial Guinea.
Because of the proximity of Cameroon with Nigeria, officially affected by the Ebola fever, Equatorial Guinea had already decided to close its land border with Cameroon, in the South of the country.
