The diplomatic community in Cameroon has shown it's sympathy for Eséka train accident victims by donating blood in an event organised by the U.S Embassy Yaounde on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

The U.S Embassy posted the following statement on it's official Facebook page alongside photos...

"On October 23, 2016, Ambassador Michael S. Hoza and Medical Attaché Diana M. Vandermast welcomed to the U.S. Embassy in Yaounde the Ambassadors and High Commisioners of Canada, France, Japan, Israel, and the United Nations, along with diplomats from those countries, the World Health Organization, World Bank, the U.S. Embassy, and Cameroonian medical professionals for a blood donation event for the victims of last Friday's train accident in Eseka.

The blood will be sent to the HGOPY hospital in Yaounde, which is serving victims.

Ambassador Hoza said: "The Diplomatic Corps has joined together in this blood donation event this Sunday in order to return to Cameroonians the wonderful hospitality they have offered all of us. By donating our blood as a diplomatic community, we offer our help to the victims of this tragic accident. We express our deepest condolences to the people of Cameroon for the injuries and losses of life as a result of the CAMRAIL accident at Eseka last Friday. Our thoughts and prayers are with all Cameroonians at this very difficult time."

On October 21, 2016, at least 70 people were killed and nearly 600 injured when a packed passenger train travelling from Yaounde to Douala derailed and overturned.
