On his return from Brazil following Cameroon’s disastrous 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, Samuel Eto’o held a meeting in Yaoundé with several key figures of the Lions’ glorious days, as reported by Camfoot.

The charismatic striker brought together in his apartment of the Hilton hotel Roger Milla, Emmanuel Maboang Kessak, Joseph Antoine Bell, Stephen Tataw, Emmanuel Mvé and Michel Kaham, as he landed in the Cameroon’s capital last Wednesday.

It is quite an achievement by Eto’o, knowing that some of his guests were not on speaking terms for a long time.

And it also says a lot about the urgency of the situation and the generalised discontent with the way football has been managed in Cameroon for many years.

“Following the collapse of the Indomitable Lions at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the former Indomitable Lions have decided to set up a consultation framework in order to propose appropriate measures to the government to get the Cameroonian football back on its feet,” the former legends said in a statement published by Camfoot.

“It is an initiative of Samuel Eto’o. He contacted me as well as the other Lions even if the idea was conceived before the World Cup. Why should we fight among ourselves knowing that we can work together to get our football out of the deadlock,” former attacking midfielder Emmanuel Maboang Kessack told Camfoot.

“He (Eto’o) allowed each of us to let off steam and we were all able to speak to each other. I have been working with Eto’o on the problem for more than ten days, even before the President has called for an investigation. We gave ourselves ten days to put forward some proposals,” added Maboang.
