“Eto’o had asked not to go to Brazil”-Milla

African football legend and former Cameroon’s international Roger Milla has slammed his country’s football officials as well as the national team’s technical staff for the Lions’ disastrous campaign in Brazil at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Cameroon recorded three consecutive losses against Mexico, Croatia and Brazil in their Group A, leaving the tournament after having scored a single goal for nine conceded.

“We are the only nation in Brazil without a Football Association. The Normalisation Committee is acting as if it was the Cameroonian Football Federation. They need to do their job which is not to manage our football,” Milla told national media Crtv about the body appointed by FIFA in July 2013 to revise the statutes, conduct elections and manage the daily affairs of Fecafoot until 30 November 2014.

The ‘Old Lion’ also spoke out in defence of the players and of their captain, Samuel Eto’o, highly criticized after their pre-World Cup strike over bonuses and the poor show that followed in Brazil.

“The officials want to take all the money generated by football. According to them, the players should have nothing.

“We cannot put the blame on a single player for everything. Samuel Eto’o had asked the Coach not to be selected for the World Cup, but the Coach requested him to be there. Even the medical staff was surprised to see him play.

“We need to make a clean sweep.”
