The Cameroon international footballer Samuel Eto’o Fils currently plying his trade with Sampdoria in Italy has launched a fundraising campaign with non-governmental organizations to assist refugees who have fled the criminal activities of the extremist sect Boko Haram. Eto’o is conducting the exercise through his private foundation.

Dubbed Yellow Whistle Blower the online operation aims at not only garnering funds, but also raising awareness for the international community over the humanitarian situation of the sect’s victims, many of whom lost their parents, children, properties and income due to the insurgency.

This initiative for which I am very keen is a solidarity bid the football star declared on Wednesday, appealing to everyone to contribute to alleviating the plight of these people.

The mainly Cameroonian refugees are currently living in squalid makeshift tents Samuel Eto’o lamented before urging this unwholesome situation to be swiftly tackled.

Quoting sources from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the football star claimed that some 250,000 displaced people are in dire need of humanitarian help.
