Why the call for residents in Yaounde town to paint their buildings during this festive period?
End-of-year- festivities period is a good time to remind the population that it is good to join the Yaounde City Council to beautify the town. That is why during this time we ask those with buildings down-town Yaounde to re-paint their residence and fences with a golden-yellowish colour so that there is uniformity in the presentation of buildings. Those in private residences in the town of Yaounde are forbidden to dry their clothes and under-wears in their balconies to the view of the public.
Why remind people each year?
We have realised that not everybody abides to the call of the government delegate. That is why we keep reminding people each year. But there are some people who promptly react to the call of the government delegate and re-paint their buildings. With time, we hope that everybody will positively react to the call which concerns administrators of public buildings as well as private residences down-town Yaounde.
What sanctions for those who do not respect the call?
For now, there is no punishment for those who do not yield to the call of the government delegate. We just want inhabitants to help beautify the town especially given that the period is special with festivities that mark the birth of Jesus Christ and announce another year. But it will be best for Yaounde dwellers to help to keep the town clean throughout the year. As for those who dry their clothes in front of their residence, if seen, such people will be charged to pay FCFA 3,000 each time they are caught. So far, nobody has been sanctioned but if caught, they can be punished by the Yaounde City Council or the Mayor of the locality.
