This was the main focus of the administrative and security meeting held in Tiko.
As the countdown to the September 30, Municipal and Legislative elections narrows, administrative and security officials in Fako Division of the South West Region are bent on ensuring a smooth conduct of the polls before, during and after the elections. The decision was arrived at during the second semester administrative and security coordination meeting for Fako division under the auspices of the Senior Divisional Officer, Zang III.
According to the SDO, the conduct of the April 14 Senatorial Elections in the division was satisfactory in spite a few lapses which will be taken care of in the upcoming twin elections. "We must do everything humanly possible to improve the organisation of the Municipal and Legislative elections", Zang III told his collaborators.
The conduct of the elections, he said, should not leave any stakeholder indifferent. The efforts of the Fako administration, the SDO said must be synergized not only for the smooth organisation of the elections but also for a hitch free hosting of activities to mark the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Reunification. "We are taking all measures to ensure security ahead of the elections and the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Reunification", Zang III assured.
Mr. Zang III exhorted all stakeholders to accompany Elections Management body, ELECAM, in accomplishing its task of organizing free, fair and transparent elections. He called on potential voters who are yet to withdraw their voters' cards from ELECAM to do so and vote when the time comes. "Presently we are pushing towards the distribution of voters cards", he said. He revealed that 75 percent of the cards have been distributed in the division.
The Fako administrative and security coordination meeting was also an opportunity for the SDO and his team to evaluate actions and project into the future as far as government actions are concerned. The maintenance of law and order, protection of persons and property according to the SDO remains paramount and requires team work and commitment.
He used the occasion to condemn some vices that still thrive in the division such as clandestine transport, consumption of illicit drugs, rape, juvenile delinquencies, child trafficking amongst others and called on all and sundry to bring positive change in behaviors by improving on morals and societal values as well as promote civic responsibilities.
Earlier the Mayor of Tiko, Richard Tita Fombon, said expectations are high ahead of the important elections. He assured that Tiko is providing a serene and calm atmosphere to reign at the hills of the twin elections.
