Pupils and staff of Government Nursery School (GNS) Likomba in Tiko could hardly conceal their excitement over the handing over of their classrooms that have witnessed a complete facelift following the disastrous storm of April 12, 2014 that blew off the entire roof of the two classrooms.

The classrooms renovated to the tune of FCFA 4 million by the CPDM Member of Parliament for Fako East constituency, Hon. Fritz Ngeka Etoke accommodate some 127 kids and eight teachers of the school which though created in 2006 still perches on the premises of GS Likomba Group II campus.

While commending the head teacher of GNS Likomba for bringing the problem to his notice, the young MP challenged the population of his constituency as well as service heads to make use of their representative at the “Glass House” by bringing development ideas to his office whose doors remain open for all. Hon. Etoke said he will want to be remembered as the MP who brought the much-needed development to Fako East.

Earlier, the head teacher of GNS Likomba, Mrs. Blandine Njenge, expressed gratitude to the honourable Member of Parliament for coming to their rescue. She recounted how the wild storm swept away the entire roof of the two classrooms forcing the kids and staff to squeeze themselves on the veranda since the start of the Third term of the school year. The prompt reaction of the Member of Parliament, she said, has restored joy, hope and inspiration in the minds of kids and staff of GNS Likomba.

The Inspector of Basic Education for Tiko, Ndando Elizabeth, on her part, noted that educating a child means educating the nation, adding that Cameroon can only attain emergence by 2035 through education. She enjoined the beneficiaries to take appropriate measures to maintain the building which now stands out unique in the campus.
