The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi has received in audience a delegation of Moroccan experts carrying out feasibility studies for the construction of a dyke road in the Logone and Chari area in the Far North region.
During the meeting, the experts updated the Minister with the findings of the technical studies carried out prior to construction works.
The distance represents some 330km stretching from Gobo to Kousseri, a project which upon completion, will improve on human settlement and provide a barrier for the banks of River Logone.
The ultimate goal of the dyke road is to protect the people from future floods, secure the country’s borders and encourage economic activities like farming and livestock rearing.
Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi appreciated the experience of the Moroccans and suggested that the project includes the Tekele – Yagoua stretch of road.
The project to construct the 330km – long road was initiated after the 2012 flood caused by the collapse of the dyke on the River Logone. The flood caused enormous destruction and displaced many families.
After the tragic incident, President Paul Biya visited the victims and promised to secure the area.
