Two civilians have been killed in an overnight raid by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in the Cameroonian town of Goulouzivini located in the Far North bordering Nigeria.
The circumstances of the incursion on Thursday evening are still unclear, but security sources said the assailants were probably looking for food and may have re-crossed the border after the raid.
This latest assault comes after last Sunday’s arrest of two members of the jihadist movement, one of whom was armed with an AK-47 rifle.
Sources said they were nabbed by fishermen in Darak, a village near Lake Chad.
On Tuesday, the minister of Communication and government spokesman, Issa Tchiroma Bakary told journalists that a huge operation involving 2,500 troops of the joint multinational force (FMM) was already underway in the region.
