Mbah Shupong Michael inspires Momo farmers to increase production Poultry and pig farmers in Momo division have been sounding off about a rare opportunity to increase production and productivity. In effect, the North West Livestock Development Fund (CDENO) is on their lips for organizing a recent a recent training workshop to update farmers on appropriate rearing techniques to enhance broiler and animal production and generate greater revenue. Participating farmers later retired with high quality feed and vaccines graciously offered by the Director of the North West Livestock Development Fund, Mbah Shupong Michael. The farmers hailed his demonstration of generosity and commitment to stand by farmers for progress.
Resource persons, Mbah Isaac Fai and Kubam William Gemuh drilled the farmers on broiler production, preparation of chicken coop or brooders, installation of chicks in the coop, poultry health, prophylactic program for broilers and day-to-day management. The training workshop in Batibo also introduced participants to common terms in pig farming, constraints in pig farming, types of breeds among which are African and modern breeds, feeding boars, fatteners and the housing of pigs.
It also emerged from the training that the insufficient intake of animal protein affects the population. Rudimentary practices of housing, feeding and health care for poultry were also blamed for low yields in the sector in North West neighbourhoods.
