The Chatham House report highlighted the lack of progress in the fight against illegal timber in Cameroon.

The fight against illegal timber hits Cameroon as half of the Cameroonian production still operate illegally. The NGO Chatham House have ceased its operations since 2010. That was the year where the voluntary partnership agreement (VPA) was signed between Cameroon and the European Union to establish the legality of the wood to enter Europe.

But Cameroon in implementing this agreement is slow to get the facts; national legislation is not followed, land law is still blurred, information is not published, logs controls are inadequate. A these are due to lack of stringent measures and dialogue with civil society as these seems to have come to a standstill.
