Cameroon and the international community observed the 12th edition of the International Day for the fight against Corruption this December 9, 2015.

On the occasion, the President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC), Dieudonne Massi Gams, emphasised on the consequences of corruption which go a long way to affect the forestry sector and promote the illegal sale of drugs.

The day was being observed as Transparency International released its 2015 Barometer on Corruption.

Records indicate that despite the creation of organs to fight corruption in Cameroon, the vice still has a firm grip on the country.

According to results of a survey conducted, the police, the judiciary and tax agents were identified as the most corrupt circles.

In order to oust corruption, Transparency International has recommended the following:

- The enactment of anti-corruption law.

- A truly independent judiciary.

- The protection of whistle-blowers.

In the meantime, Cameroonians have hailed the efforts of CONAC since its creation in March 2006 and called for more stringent measures on perpetrators of corrupt acts.
