Final School Examinations Kick Off

Close to 500,000 pupils sat the entrance examinations into secondary school on Tuesday.

The written part of the 2012 certificate examinations for pupils in primary schools in the country began yesterday May 15. Close to 500,000 children took part in the entrance examinations into the first year of secondary school for both the Francophone (concours d'entrée en sixieme) and Anglophone (Government Common Entrance Examination) sub-systems of education.

In this light, the Secretary of State for Secondary Education, Mounouna Foutsou visited some examination centres in the Mefou and Afamba Division in the Centre Region. The purpose of the visit was to ensure the effective take-off of the "Entrée en Sixieme" into technical colleges in the division.

At the Government High School, Abang, which was the first stop, the atmosphere was calm. The campus was out of bounds to visitors. Parents were asked to keep at bay as they waited anxiously for their children. Mounouna Foutsou held talks with the examiners on the organisation of the examination. In Government Bilingual High School Mendong II, all candidates were present but for the absence of the Chief Examiner. The story was the same in all the schools.

Speaking briefly to the press, Mounouna Foutsou expressed satisfaction with the manner in which the examinations were going on in the centres. He expressed the wish that the situation was the same all over the division.

In the same vein, the Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes visited examination centres in the West Region to encourage the pupils and officials and to ensure a smooth running of the examinations. Meanwhile, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Professor Ivo Leke Tambo, was on the field in Mfoundi Division in the Centre Region for the same purpose.
