Some 235 recruits were yesterday October 2, symbolically presented the flag of the corps.
It was a dual ceremony yesterday, October 2, 2013 at the Fire Fighter's Training Centre (CDI) behind the Yaounde I Council in Yaounde chaired by Brigadier General Mahamat Ahmed, Commander of the Fire Fighter Corps.
The first phase was the recognition of the 2013 contingent of Fire Fighters Brigade newly recruited into the corps. Then followed the symbolic presentation of the flag of the corps, which according to Mahamat Ahmed, is full of significance. Like all flags, that of the Fire Fighter Corps has a symbol embedded in its tricolor design of Green Red and Yellow, signifying the historical togetherness that all Cameroonians must be committed to.
On the flag is inscribed the motto of the corps - Faith and Commitment, which according to Brigadier General Mahamat, must also be respected. He therefore challenged the new recruits to bear in mind that they have been called to sacrifice for those in distress. He paid tribute to heroes who in the course of their duties lost their lives. "By joining us, you have chosen a superb but tricky and hazardous profession as you must have noticed during training. "Our task is daunting - the love for others and the spirit of obedience," he reminded them.
He stressed that henceforth, there was one Fire Fighters Corps - that which is in harmony. "Learn from your elders," he challenged the 235 recruits and "remember to remain young even after 10 years by keeping fit." The new recruits, in chant, promised total loyalty and commitment. They vowed to serve with faith and commitment as per the motto of the corps. They prayed God Almighty to help them to remain available when called upon to save lives. They also swore to respect the corps code of conduct to the letter.
