Fire Razes Night Club

Tue, 28 May 2013 Source: Cameroon Tribune

Night fell in Douala yesterday May 27 at broad daylight! This was witnessed in the Akwa neighbourhood where a nightclub popularly known as "Senat" caught fire. When CT arrived the scene at 2:30 pm, shortly after the flames were noticed, the ravaging fire was battering its way from one part of the building to another. On the spot, a ruthless battle ensued between the elements of the fire fighting brigade who had responded promptly to call and the flames which was threatening to cross over to nearby buildings. Meanwhile, a mammoth crowd had gathered around the scene, in an attempt to remove untouched objects in the house. However, their efforts were futile because the nightclub operators prohibited people from entering the building. At press time, the cause of the inferno was still unknown. As for the damages, no official statement had been made concerning the tragic incident. It would be noted that "Senat" nightclub was scheduled to host Amstel Afro Jazz Sessions 2013 on Thursday May 30.
