First female military commander installed

The first ever female military commander, Issova Sono Seraphine has been installed at the Specialised Marine Training Center at Isongo, Idenau on Friday May 29.

Her installation came following a presidential decree in February 2015, appointing her as the commander of the specialised marine training center.

The ceremony was presided at by the Major General of all military training centers in Cameroon, Mpai Philip, accompanied by the Divisional officer, Basile Ekomba, colonels, commanders, captains, amongst others.

Issova Seraphine was born in September 1972 at Mbendji in the South Region of Cameroon, is married and has three children.

The military lady has a degree in Literature obtained in 1996 and joined the military force in 1997 where she performed bravely obtaining diplomas and certificates.

She travelled to Washington D.C, U.S.A, in 2010 where she received training on how to mold future leaders of Africa.

Issova equally received a medal from the United Nations in 2011. Issova Seraphine graduated from the batch of Peace and Stability from the combined military training school, EMIA in 2005, and set out with determination and ambition to get to the top.

Issova Sono Seraphine is the 7th commander at the specialised military training center under the naval base and the 1st lady to come out as commander at the military.

The centre trains all military forces in Cameroon and is recognised as one of the best training centres in Cameroon.

During the installation ceremony Issova Sono Seraphine took over in action, exchanging signs of swords in the air with the outgoing commander Ndzana Mvondo Christophe who is now transferred to the Douala naval base as commander.

Speaking to the new commander, Issova expressed joy and satisfaction with her promotion and said it her wish to work hard and meet up with the challenges as a commander.

Issova said being a commander gives her the mind that she stands in for the women and her country.
