First modern water point at Lopopomo inaugurated

A potable water point estimated at eight million Cfa Franc has been donated to the people of Lopopomo, Megama and other neighbouring villages of the Lekie division in the Center region.

The first drops of water were pumped out from the water project by the Divisional officer for the Lekie Division as he officially inaugurated the project donated to the locality by the Member of Parliament for Lekie, Honourable Cecile Marie Epondo Fouda.

The donation according to local traditional and administrative authorities is a welcomed relief; the first of its kind in Lopopomo and other neighbouring villages where water borne diseases are recurrent and people walk long distance in search for water from streams.

The manually pumped water project has been installed in the heart of the village, next to a Health centre and a primary school. According to the donor, the choice of the site is a respond from a call from the local population to provide potable water to school children and patients.

She used the occasion to called on others of goodwill to join in her strive to build a water point for every school in the country.

Honourable Cecile Marie Epondo Fouda said she was inspired in her development effort by the CPDM parliamentary group leader, Jean Benard Ndongo Essomba who has also at the ceremony to urge the elites to work in synergy in contributing to local development.

The 60 m deep water point can be piped to distant areas if an electronic pomp and a reservoir and added to the exiting project, the architect noted. In the meantime, the population expressed joyful and gratitude for the potable water source which puts an end to distance walks and recurrent of water borne diseases.

After the Senior Divisional officer for the Lekie inaugurated the water point, it was also dedicated to God as a source of life by the parish priest of Lopopomo.

Women and children immediately went drinking as they danced with joy around the source of potable water.

Prior to the inauguration, Honourable Cecile Marie Epondo Fouda made donations of school uniforms at the Government Primary School Polo 1 A in Ebebola where several pupils wear assorted dress to school. The donation of school uniforms was a welcomed relief to their pupils and teachers who say it will create harmony and facilitate the teaching learning process in the remote village.
