The first phase of the Memve’ele Hydroelectricity power plant has been completed six months ahead of the deadline.
The second phase which consists of the derivations of the Ntem River for the building of a one Kilometre long canal and dyke has been officially launched by the project coordinator, Dr. Dieudonné Bisso.
The high intensity of labour and machinery in use at the extensive construction of the Memve’ele power plant guaranteed the 60% rate of realization of the project at such a good pace.
The remarkable success rate was appreciated by the project coordinator as he launched the second phase. So far, the spillway that regulates the volume of water in the dam is already operational.
The Chinese constructors on their part have already begun the second phase of the project with the derivation of the Ntem River paving the way for the construction of a 1,050 meters long canal that will supply water to the powerhouse.
Work is also progressing where four turbines are being planted to generate 210 megawatts of electricity. In the meantime the work is in advance, experts hope to effectively generate electricity by September 2016 to Ebolowa and neighbouring towns.
Some 1,800 workers engaged in the realisation of the giant project have both exhibited determination as they spend 24 hours every day at work.
Meanwhile, the quality of the material and the construction as a whole is guaranteed by the National Civil Engineering Laboratory, Lobogenie.
By that time, the project must have been completed, the Memve’ele Hydroelectricity power plant will then have the capacity to supply an additional 210 megawatts of electricity to the national network.
