The Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA-Cameroon), the Cameroon Union of Journalists (CUJ), Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ) and the Cameroon Anglophones Newspaper Publishers Association (CANPA) have mutually agreed to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day together in Buea on May 3, 2014.
The agreement was reached in Limbe on March 14, 2014 during a meeting by stakeholders at the offices of The Star Media House. It was the second meeting after the first on February 15, 2014.
The meeting attended by the Presidents of the CUJ, CJA, CANPA and Africaphine, Charles Ndi Chia, Chief Foanyi Nkemayang Paul, John Mbah Akuroh and George Ngwane brainstormed on ways of making the celebrations successful and historic.
The President of CAMASEJ Tricia Oben who was on mission in the North West spoke to us by phone during the meeting and gave her blessing. Also present at the meeting were CUJ Assistant Secretary General Martin Nkemngu, CJA-Cameroon Vice President Prince Charles Endeley and the Association’s Legal Adviser Barrister Maurice Welabi.
During the meeting, some important issues bordering on the progress report of CJA-Cameroon were also discussed and decisions taken to move the association to greater heights.
Members thanked the association’s Adviser Charles Ndi Chia for facilitating the creation of an e-group for CJA-Cameroon. George Ngwane was also overwhelmingly elected one of the Advisers of CJA-Cameron at the Limbe meeting.
On preparations for the World Press Freedom Day, the next meeting will hold at the offices of The Post newspaper in Buea on Friday April 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. prompt.
