Four tons of counterfeit medicines seized in capital city

As part of the “Halte au commerce illicite” (Halcomi – stop to smuggling) operation, launched on 16 August 2016 at the Cameroonian Customs’ initiative, in partnership with local businessmen, customs officers have just seized a cargo of four tons of counterfeit medication, we learned from official sources.

These pharmaceutical counterfeit products, coming from West Africa, were stocked in warehouses at the central market of Yaoundé, in the Cameroonian capital. “This is the largest seizure of the kind, made by our teams since the launch of this operation”, indicated Marcel Kamgaing, Zone 2 Coordinator for the Halcomi operation.

The owners of these pharmaceutical products were not arrested, according to our sources. In compliance with the regulation in force in Cameroon, these products will be destroyed by incineration.
